KANSAS WHEAT

An undulating golden sea
waves an endless hello or goodbye
like a memory of a lullabye.
Slender reedy stalks sprout
rough whiskers
from each grain turning honey amber
under a Kansas sun
that leans into a wide blue tapestry
of daydreams
wanting nothing more than the rhythm
of willows waltzing
with sleepy breezes.
